Contrary to what many believe, scenic roads qualify for their status for more reasons than just scenery. In fact, scenery may not even be on the list! Intrinsic Qualities is what they're called. There are six classifications. They are - Scenic, Natural, Historic, Cultural, Archaeological and Recreational.
The Navajo Nation has six scenic roads that weave a web through high desert, mountains, valleys, canyon country, lakes and one of the longest continuously inhabited landscapes of North America. Most of the Navajo Scenic Roads have qualified by having several or all of the intrinsic qualities. This makes a driving experience unparalleled to anywhere else on earth.
But don't just drive. You can't experience everything from your car. Get out and take the time to enjoy all the qualities the roads have to offer. Immerse yourself in the culture, experience the splendid museums, explore the ancient ruins, tour the world famous parks, see (and be tempted by) spectacular arts & crafts.
